Careers
Careers at Babbitt Bearing Company — San Jose
Skilled trade work on parts that matter, in one building in San Jose, since 1945.
The work
BBC is a repair and manufacturing shop. Components arrive worn, damaged or obsolete, and leave measured back to print. That means the work is varied by nature — a hydraulic ram shaft one day, an aircraft compressor wheel the next, and no two jobs identical.
Because plating, spray, grinding, machining, welding and inspection all sit under one roof, people here see a part through more of its life than they would in a single-process shop.
Trades on the floor
The processes in the building. Each links to what that work actually involves.
Plating
Hard chrome to AMS 2460 and AMS 2406 — masking, racking, tank work, and rebuilding worn components back to print.
Thermal spray
Plasma, flame and twin wire arc spray, laying coatings onto components that have to survive wear, heat or corrosion.
Precision grinding
Cylindrical and internal ID grinding — the finishing step that brings plated and sprayed work back to final size.
CNC machining
Turning, boring, drilling, threading and keyway work on material up to 27" x 100".
Welding
MIG, TIG and arc welding, including build-up on worn components before they are machined back.
Inspection
Magnetic particle inspection to ASTM 1444 and liquid penetrant to ASTM 1417, in a complete inspection department.
Working under FAR 145
BBC is an FAA approved Repair Station, #BK3R400L. Our Quality Manual, Repair Station Manual and employee training programs are developed in accordance with the requirements of Federal Aviation Regulation Part 145.
In practice that shapes the job: training is documented, procedures are written down, and work is inspected and recorded rather than signed off on memory. If you have worked in a regulated shop, it will be familiar. If you have not, it is learnable — the framework exists to be taught.

We do not keep a posted list of openings. Hiring here follows the work, so the honest answer at any given moment is: ask.
If you run a grinder, a lathe, a spray gun or a plating line — or you want to learn to — send us what you have done and we will tell you whether there is a seat for it.
Get in touch
Email a résumé, or call the shop and ask. It is a job shop, not a call centre — the person who answers can point you at the right people.
