How work moves through the building

Plating, spray, grinding, machining and inspection under one roof means a rebuild never leaves for a subcontractor mid-job. Here is the path a part actually takes.

One building, one chain of custody

Most rebuilds need more than one process. A worn shaft is evaluated, built back up, brought to final size, inspected, and sometimes balanced. Where those steps live in different shops, every handoff is a freight leg, a queue, and a chance for the schedule and the accountability to slip.

At BBC they are all here. The steps below are the ordinary path of a repair through the shop — the specifics of any one job depend on the part, the material and the specification on the print.

The path a part takes

    Send us the part

    A drawing, a photograph, or a description of how it failed — with the substrate material and the finished dimension you need. If your print calls out a specification, tell us, including the cancelled AMS-QQ-C-320 that still turns up on legacy drawings.

    No drawing? Send a photo and the dimensions you can measure. Reverse engineering an obsolete component is ordinary work here.

  2. 02Step 2

    Evaluate and quote

    We inspect the part, establish how much material is gone, and work out the right process for the duty — hard chrome, thermal spray, weld build-up, or a combination. You get back a plan and a quote, not a guess.

  3. 03Step 3

    Prepare and build up

    The surface is prepared and masked, then rebuilt: hard chrome plating to AMS 2460 and AMS 2406, plasma / flame / twin wire arc spray to AMS 2437, or MIG/TIG/arc weld build-up, depending on what the part needs.

    Plating runs from .0001" for corrosion protection to .050" for a full rebuild.

  4. 04Step 4

    Machine and grind to size

    The built-up component is CNC machined and precision ground back to the drawing. Because grinding is in-house, the part comes to final size in the same building it was plated in — no shipping between operations.

  5. 05Step 5

    Inspect and verify

    Non-destructive testing on our own floor: magnetic particle inspection to ASTM 1444 and liquid penetrant to ASTM 1417. The distance between finding a defect and doing something about it stays short.

  6. 06Step 6

    Finish and return

    Final operations as required — dynamic balancing, honing, shot peen — then the finished part is documented and returned, measured back to print.

Why the single roof matters

The whole argument for BBC is in that chain: one shop holds the part from evaluation to final inspection. For a regulated repair that means one chain of custody and one set of records, under an FAA Repair Station approval, rather than a component crossing three vendors' loading docks before it is signed off.
