The questions we actually get asked, answered from what BBC publishes — no guesses.
Capabilities & specifications
- What specifications do you plate and spray to?
- Hard chrome plating to AMS 2460 and AMS 2406; plasma spray to AMS 2437; magnetic particle inspection to ASTM 1444 and liquid penetrant to ASTM 1417 — each to the current revision. If your print calls out the cancelled AMS-QQ-C-320, tell us and we will work out the current equivalent with you.
- How thick can you build up a worn part with hard chrome?
- From .0001" for corrosion protection, where dimensional change must stay negligible, up to .050" to rebuild a worn component back to print — then ground to size in the same building.
- How large a part can you machine?
- CNC machining runs up to 27" in diameter, 100" long and 2000 lbs. Thermal sprayed parts run up to 6" × 120". Send a drawing if your component is outside that — the published envelope is a starting point, not a hard limit.
- Do you grind after plating or spraying?
- Yes. Precision grinding is in-house for both plated and sprayed components, so a rebuild comes to final size in the same building instead of shipping between vendors.
Quality & aerospace
- Are you approved for aerospace work?
- Yes. BBC is an FAA approved Repair Station, #BK3R400L, working under FAR 145. The AMS and ASTM specifications we plate, spray and inspect to sit under that framework.
- Are you ISO 9001 or AS9100 registered?
- No. BBC holds an FAA Repair Station certificate under FAR 145 — an airworthiness approval, not a quality-system registration. They are different things, and we would rather say so plainly. If your programme requires AS9100 or ISO specifically, tell us early.
- Can you inspect what you repair?
- Yes — magnetic particle inspection to ASTM 1444 and liquid penetrant to ASTM 1417, in a complete inspection department on our own floor.
Working with us
- What do you need from me to quote a repair?
- Ideally a drawing with the finished dimension, the specification called out, what the part does and how it failed, the substrate material and the quantity. None of it is mandatory — send what you have and we will ask about the rest. See our guide on how to specify a repair.
- I do not have a drawing. Can you still help?
- Yes. Send a photograph and the dimensions you can measure. Reverse engineering an obsolete component is ordinary work here — we have been repairing parts since 1945.
- What are your lead times?
- Lead time depends on the part, the processes involved and current shop load, so we quote it with the job rather than publishing a blanket figure. For an urgent repair, call the shop and ask.
- How do I send a drawing or CAD file?
- Use the quote form, which opens an email you can attach files to, or email info@bbcmachine.com directly. Please do not paste controlled or export-restricted data into the website chat.
